Meditech apneABP 3in1
Meditech apneABP is a multifunctional devices, which combines a basic ambulatory blood pressure monitoring device with a pulse oximeter and actigraph monitor. It can be considered a miniature ambulatory sleep lab, which can be used for pre-screening obstructive sleep apnea on an outpatient basis.
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring functions
Meditech apneABP collects data on morning, daytime and nighttime blood pressure with systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse, mean arterial pressure (MAP), pulse pressure (PP), pulse rate, minimum and maximum values, stabdard deviation (SD), percent time elevation (PTE), hypertension load or hyperbaric index, diurnal index or day-night index and morning surge.
Pulse oximetry functions
The monitor provides data on beat-to-beat finger photoplethysmographic waveforms, brachial and finger pulse waveforms and brachial pulse transition times.
Monitoring of body position and physical activity on patients with obstructive sleep apnea usually shows high level of activity during nighttime, therefore apneABP provides full actigraphy and body position signal as well.
The OSAS mechanism
When breathing is interrupted, the blood oxygen level falls. Therefore the brain sends signals to improve the flow of oxygen to the heart and brain, thereby tightening up the blood vessels, which results in blood pressure increase. Frequent drops in blood oxygen level, along with reduced quality of sleep, can also trigger the release of stress hormones, which also raises your heart rate and increases your risk for high blood pressure.
