Listening to music for a half an hour daily can significantly reduce your blood pressure without taking drugs. That is the conclusion of a new study which analyzed the effects of combination of music with lifestyle modification versus lifestyle modification alone on blood pressure reduction.
100 prehypertensives or stage I hypertensives were divided into 2 groups during the study. Both groups went through lifestyle modifications while 1 received music intervention in addition for 3 months. Outcome was measured by 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
24 hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is a non-invasive tool of recording blood pressure data over a 24-hour period, whilst the patient outside clinical environment, representing a true reflection of his or her blood pressure.
Many studies have confirmed 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring to be superior to clinic blood pressure in predicting future cardiovascular events and target organ damage.
Music Decreased Blood Pressurre in Prehypertensives
Association was found between diastolic blood pressure change in the music intervention group. Significant change in blood pressure was seen among prehypertensives.
